This year I took part in the Island Sailing Clubs Round The Island event, sailing around the Isle of Wight, aboard Panther 43X. Panther 43X is a brand new Grande Soleil 43 raced out of the River Hamble.
It was great day and I was fortunate to have a friend of mine taking photos from the Island as mentioned in the Previous post – Round The Island. We came 23rd overall in class, which was a fantastic result seeming as we had a crew that didn’t know the boat very well! The next big challenge will be Cowes week starting this Saturday, 8th of August!

This week I set myself a challenge, to shoot and edit a film in one day. I set last Sunday aside and planned all my shots and music the night before, gathered my cameras and set off to film myself triathlon training.
The idea of the film is to show friends and family what it is like to train for a triathlon and why they should sponsor me to raise money for Mind. I split it up into 5 sections, Intro, Swim, Cycle, Run and Ending. The Swim, Cycle and Run are self explanatory but for the Intro I decided to have a run down of all the equipment needed. For the ending I wanted to have Mind written in the sand and washed away by the sea, unfortunately I couldn’t achieve this at Gurnard beach but I was very pleased by how it all turned out.
I ended up taking a little longer to edit the film, finishing the next evening, but it meant I was completely happy with it and gave me some time to think parts over. Overall it was one of my favourite films I’ve completed and I would definitely attempt the challenge again.

Last Sunday was the Cervantes Trophy with RORC over to Le Havre, I was aboard Phosphorous in which we came second in IRC 1. A fantastic result seeing as only 3 out of the 8 crew had sailed on her before!
On the way back I jumped aboard Hooligan 7 as Phosphorous was heading up to Ramsgate for the North Sea Race. Hooligan 7 is a Ker 40, some more info can be found here at Hooligan Racing. We had gorgeous champagne sailing conditions back from France to the Solent, close reaching the whole way pushing up against 10 knots. With the bright blue sky, calm sea and a quick boat I couldn’t help to grab some footage.
Above is a quick edit I put together from the trip.
